Trails groomed 1/30/2024

A big thanks to Lukas for heading out last evening to clean up the trails after a super busy weekend with lots of traffic, and also the big freeze-thaw cycles we’re currently experiencing. He reports that trails were freshened up for both skate and classic. Be aware that until we see temps go back down, we’ll have freeze/thaw conditions…

Conditions/Grooming Report 1/17/2024

Lots of new snow, but also lots of wind. Battling the drifts has taken up most of the grooming effort, but things are now pretty well set for classic skiing, with a new track set throughout. The upper/outer meadow loop has been re-established with a fresh track as well. Lots of drifts still exist on the inner meadow trail from Point-M, down to Point-O (the lower road trail). Classic will be the best bet until the weekend. We do hope to have more grooming/smoothing passes done by then to even things out and make it firm and smooth. It just takes a lot of grooming work to get that done. The snow depth is very good now, though, so we’re very happy about that!!! Go ski classic! It will be good with skin skis in the middle part of the day, and kick wax in the morning and evening.

12/26/2023 Grooming & Conditions Report

We’ve had a couple of issues with our grooming machines and low volunteer availability for grooming, so it’s been a little hit and miss with getting on top of things. After a couple of days working on our Viking snowmobile, it was usable enough to get in a good number of laps focused on widening, tilling, and leveling the trails so they’re not so narrow, uneven and side-sloped. The outer meadow was also groomed out, but it was windy, so there will be a lot of windblown drift by tomorrow.

While the trails will be cleaned up from all the holiday traffic, they still need some more work. There’s no classic track and even the skate lane needs more conditioning. Hopefully, we’ll get more passes on them by the weekend.

Sorry for the slow grooming response – we just don’t have much volunteer coverage right now. At least the snow and weather are both good!

GROOMING/CONDITIONS REPORT- SATURDAY EVENING 12/9/2023

Conditions weren’t so great this morning, but things were groomed this afternoon and it snowed about 1/2″. There were a lot of dogs and hikers not adhering to the signs, and they made a mess to the point of causing damage and degradation of the conditions. It was not easy to groom that out with so little snow.

Anyway, things were regroomed and where the snow is still covering the trail well, there’s still some good skiing. It’s not so great from the trailhead to about Point-C. Lower Road is a mixed bag, but it was also groomed.

Be super careful and use rock skis.

Weekend Ski Planning…?

There are plans for a “best we can do” regrooming of the system. The warm weather this week definitely hit the conditions hard, but there’s still skiable conditions. It’ll definitely be rock-ski conditions, so keep that in mind. You may have to bridge over a bare spot here and there, or ski over grass sticking through. It is snowing a little up at Pajarito right now. You can now see the weather again since they got their webcam up and running.
